It’s been a great year for bees in San Diego. After dealing with declining populations and hive collapses for years, the winter and spring rains brought a bounty of blooms around the county and that led to a bumper crop of bees.
One person who has been keeping tabs on the local bee population is Hilary Kearney.
As the founder of the Girl Next Door Honey, an educational beekeeping business, she's been using her expertise to enlighten the world about bees.
She's out with two new books: "The Little Book of Bees: An Illustrated Guide to the Extraordinary Lives of Bees” and “QueenSpotting: Meet the Remarkable Queen Bee and Discover the Drama at the Heart of the Hive.”
Kearney will be speaking about her new books Thursday at The Book Catapult in South Park.
