This conspiracy thriller and cautionary tale tells the story of the 2009 Climate gate scandal, when the media storm undermined confidence in the science of climate change. Professor Phil Jones and his team at the University of East Anglia find themselves in the middle of a major investigation with their 30 years of research work being questioned in the first ‘fake news’ attack.
Neil admits that he’d like to give up on this job, but his associate advises against it. He claims the Phil Jones case is no longer just about the reputation of one man or one university –it’s about the integrity of truth and who gets to tell it. Neil and Sam attempt to convey this importance to Phil, noting it’s not about whether or not he is telling the truth, but whether they believe he is.

After Phil accidentally forgets his briefcase before his meeting with a journalist, his wife Ruth chases after him to see that he has it. When she crosses paths with Neil, she lashes out and reminds him that journalists were the ones putting Phil through hell in the first place. She takes care to emphasize that to them, this is personal, and much more than just another PR job.
