I have always loved the theater and cursed the fact that I don't go more often. Then I read about plays across the country and across the Atlantic and I get really jealous. But tonight at 7pm you have a chance to catch the National Theatre's production of William Shakespeare's "All's Well That Ends Well" at the Reading Gaslamp Stadium Theaters.
This high definition broadcast marks the launch of the pilot season of NT Live, the new initiative by England’s National Theatre to broadcast live performances of plays onto screens. "All's Well That Ends Well" was produced by Marianne Elliott with a cast that includes Oliver Ford Davies (the King of France), Clare Higgins (the Countess of Rossillion), Conleth Hill (Parolles), George Rainsford (Bertram) and Michelle Terry (Helena). The play was filmed live at the National Theatre in London on October 1.
Shakespeare's comedy concerns the feisty but lowly Helena who falls in love with Bertram, a snobbish count. To gain his hand she must accomplish a set of impossible tasks. This is not one of the Bard's most popular plays and is not often produced so this is truly a rare opportunity. I look forward to other productions in this season. And hopefully I'll finally get to see some of the tempting theatre from across the pond.
