In recent years I think I have been more interested in the ads that run at the Super Bowl than the game. Here are some of the movie ads that ran including the "Cowboys and Aliens" trailer that debuted.
"Cowboys and Aliens" is based on the 2006 Platinum Studios graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley. The film created a buzz at Comic-Con when director Jon Favreau brought out Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig for the panel in July. The film could be epic fun or the effects could overrun the story and turn it into a nightmare like Will Smith's "Wild Wild West" debacle. It's too early to tell for "Cowboys and Aliens." The trailers and Super Bowl spot play up the action and effects rather than the story. But take a look and see what you think. I'm definitely excited about the possibilities.
And here is the Super Bowl trailer for the Steven Spielberg-J.J. Abrams project, "Super 8," and the Super Bowl spots for the latest Marvel Comics superhero films "Thor" and "Captain America." I won't waste any time on the new "Transformers 3" trailer. That already looks like a special effects train wreck of a movie just like the previous two films. Sorry but I am not a fan of the Michael Bay school of blow crap up, and when you run out of ideas just make it bigger and noisier.
Based on the spots and trailers, I have the most hope for "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Thor." Both of which have good directors at the helm. "Thor" is being directed by Kenneth Branagh.
So if the Super Bowl didn't get you pumped, maybe one of these trailers will. Enjoy!
