About 80 employees of SeaWorld San Diego were laid off today, part of a corporate-wide restructuring that eliminated 350 salaried and hourly workers at 10 parks and the company's headquarters in Orlando.
The losses are not quite 2 percent of the peak workforce for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, which has a large number of seasonal employees.
The restructuring was a result of SeaWorld becoming a stand-alone company after separating from Anheuser-Busch InBev last year, according to company officials.
David Koontz of SeaWorld San Diego said the layoffs cut across a number of areas of the park.
"The restructuring will not impact at all the high quality of care we give our animals," Koontz said.
