The colossal snow pack in the Sierra is holding up well so far this spring and that’s encouraging news for state water officials.
The near-record snowpack is slowly melting, but it’s still impressive.
Officials with the state’s Department of Water Resources said the water content statewide is about 144 percent of the April first season average. That’s when the snowpack is typically at its peak.
The latest readings help hydrologists predict runoff and give them a better idea of the water supply outlook. Most of the state’s reservoirs contain more water than normal for this time of year.
The Department has estimated it can deliver about 80 percent of the water requested by State Water Project customers. That’s up from 50 percent last year.
