For a second consecutive day, an unconfirmed sighting of a mountain lion wandering a North County neighborhood prompted a search of the area and some extra safety measures at a nearby grammar school.
A parent of a child who attends Chaparral Elementary in Poway reported seeing what appeared to be a cougar in the area this morning, prompting school administrators to keep all pupils indoors for the remainder of the day out of "an abundance of caution,'' Principal Dawn Zwibel said in an email notification to the families of her student body.
A similar report prompted the same precautions at the Tannin Drive campus on Tuesday.
Deputies and state Fish and Game officers checked out out the area, finding no sign of a mountain lion or similar wild animal native to the region's back country, officials said.
