Former Local Water Official Joins Metropolitan Water District

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The former chairman of the San Diego County Water Authority Tuesday joined the Board of Directors of an agency it's suing, the Metropolitan Water District.

Michael T. Hogan became one of San Diego's four representatives on the 37-member board of the MWD, the primary water wholesaler in Southern California.

The MWD sells water to the County Water Authority which, in turn, sells it to local water districts.

The San Diego County Water Authority sued the MWD, contending that San Diego is being charged higher rates for water than other areas. The case is set for trial in December.

When the suit was filed last year, Hogan said the MWD's rates were "a naked redistribution of ratepayer dollars from San Diego County to agencies located in other Southern California counties.''

The MWD said Hogan, of Solana Beach, still serves on the County Water Authority Board of Directors and is also on the board of the Santa Fe Irrigation District. He replaces Doug Wilson on the MWD's governing body.

Keith Lewinger, Fern Steiner and Vince Mudd also represent San Diego on the MWD board.
