Strong Santa Ana winds will buffet a warm San Diego County for the second consecutive day Thursday, meteorologists said.
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for valley and mountain areas until 10 a.m. Friday, saying sustained northeast to east winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts up to 60 mph were likely Thursday. Isolated gusts of 60 to 80 mph were also possible, the agency said, adding wind speeds would peak this morning.
A high wind warning is issued when winds strong enough to be considered dangerous are expected.
"Strong gusty winds will make driving hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles," the weather service said. "Watch for broken tree limbs, downed trees and power lines, and reduced visibility (due to) blowing dust."
A less-serious wind advisory for coastal areas was also issued until 10 a.m. Friday. The weather service said sustained winds along the coast Thursday would range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph.
In addition to the strong winds, warm temperatures were expected in the county Thursday. Highs Thursday were expected to top out in the low to mid-80s near the coast, mid- to high 80s inland, high 80s to low 90s in the western valleys, high 70s to low 80s near the foothills, high 60s to low 70s in the mountains and high 70s to low 80s in the deserts.
