Swine Flu Epidemic Continues Its Downward Trend

The intensity of the swine flu epidemic is declining in California. State health officials say the percentage of people infected with the H1N1 virus continues its downward trend.

California is still experiencing widespread flu activity, but doctors throughout the state report the intensity of the epidemic is waning.

Dr. Mark Horton directs the California Department of Public Health. He says that last week 3 percent of the patients who visited a doctor were diagnosed with flu-like symptoms.

"This is down from the previous week, which was at 4 percent, and we've seen a continued decline in that number over the past several weeks," Dr. Horton says.

Even so, Horton recommends that all Californians get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus.

He says public health departments and most private providers have an ample supply of the vaccine.
