About half of all people with chronic illnesses don't take their medications on time. Now, a San Diego company has developed a mobile phone app to remind people.
It's called the Care4Today Mobile Health Manager and it can be downloaded to any mobile phone.
Consumers can use it to set up reminders to take prescription drugs, over-the-counter meds or vitamins.
David Tripi is a founding partner of Jannsen Healthcare Innovation, which developed the app.
Tripi said the reminders pack a punch.
“We’ve licensed a drug database with over 20,000 images," Trippi explained. "And as the consumer picks their medication or their vitamin from the pick list, it actually downloads that image to the application, so they actually see a picture of the pill when it’s time to take it.”
Each reminder message prompts a response, which is recorded in the user’s adherence report that can be shared with loved ones.
The free app is available at iTunes or Google Play.
