Powerful Quake Triggers Japanese Tsunami Warning

An earthquake with a magnitude of at least 7.7, and possibly as high as 8.1, was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off of Japan. Officials issued a tsunami warning after the quake, advising Pacific-coast residents on the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu to move to higher ground. When the tsunami came ashore, it measured only 16 inches in height.
