Russia Pressures Tehran on Nuclear Program

As the U.N. Security Council considers tightening sanctions on Iran, Russia put its displeasure with the Iranians on full display this week. The country signaled that it will refuse to complete a nuclear reactor it is building in Iran unless Tehran agrees to a pause in its uranium enrichment and a return to negotiations.

Publicly, Iranian leaders remain defiant. But behind the scenes, there are signs the pressure may be working. The Security Council could vote on a new sanctions resolution at the end of this week.
