A sold out crowd will be taken out to the ballgame tomorrow for the San Diego Padres' Opening Day.
Former Padres pitcher Randy Jones, a baseball Hall of Famer and Cy Young award winner who now coaches for the organization, told KPBS Evening Edition that while some things about the season are up in the air—their TV deal with Fox Sports, and who their CEO will be—there’s no debating the excitement of Opening Day.
“There’s nothing like Opening Day. I don’t know how you can describe the adrenaline, the excitement," he said. "I don’t care if it’s your first one ever, or if you’ve been doing it for 15 or 20 years. I mean the adrenaline, the excitement of Opening Day; it’ll never go away. There’s nothing more thrilling. You have a sold out crowd, you get out there on the field and you’re looking back up at 50,000 people enjoying watching you, and boy, if you don’t enjoy that you might be in the wrong profession.”
Jones said the team this year is "at least a 500 ball club."
"I'm not saying they're going to win the division, but they're going to win at least 81 games in my opinion," he said.
The Padres will take the field against their arch rivals, the Los Angles Dodgers, tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at Petco Park.
