San Diego Library Offers Workshop On How To Spot 'Fake News' And Other Media Literacy Tools GUESTS:Erwin Magbanua, programming and special events coordinator, the San Diego Public Library Roger Showley, business reporter, The San Diego Union-Tribune

What is fake news? Is it a false story deliberately concocted to sway public opinion? Or is it factual information people in power do not like? It could be either, depending on who you ask.

But beyond the catch phrase, there actually is a way to determine whether what you are hearing, reading and seeing is reliable information.

The public can learn ways to make that determination at a series of workshops beginning this week at the San Diego Public Library.

The program on news literacy is called Breaking News at the Library. The workshops are funded through a grant from the American Library Association's Media Literacy @ Your Library project.

Erwin Magbanua, programming and special events coordinator for the San Diego Public Library, and Roger Showley, business reporter for The San Diego Union-Tribune, discuss the workshop series Tuesday on Midday Edition.
