On Monday, UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy will begin a week-long forum in response to increasing trade tensions between the U.S. and China. Business, technology and policy leaders will gather for high-level talks with a focus on bridging the growing gap between the two countries.
The public event to open the forum is Monday at 4 p.m. at UC San Diego's Great Hall, 9500 Gilman Drive. The event is sold out but will be live streamed here. Former National Security advisers Thomas Donilon, who served in the Obama administration, and Stephen Hadley who served in the Bush administration, will also offer insights at the public event on Monday.
Susan Shirk, chair of the 21st Century China Center at UC San Diego, is a co-chair of the week-long forum.
"We really should get beyond this 'you win, I lose' zero-sum attitude because there are losers in both countries," Shirk told KPBS.
Shirk, who was deputy assistant Secretary of State under the Clinton administration responsible for U.S. policy toward Asia, joined Midday Edition on Monday to preview the forum.
