Naval Base San Diego Wins Secretary of the Navy Safety Excellence Award

It was announced this past week that Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) was selected as the recipient of the 2010 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Safety Excellence Award for safety excellence executed in 2009.

"We are honored to continue to be recognized for our programs and efforts in promoting safety," Scott Poston, NBSD's safety manager, told Navy Compass. "Our continual recognized success is an ongoing testament of our sailors and civilians dedication to a safe and risk free work environment."

NBSD Commanding Officer Capt. Rick Williamson praised the efforts of all sailors and civilians in this exceptional achievement. "I am extremely proud of the command and the continued focus and effort placed on safety," Williamson told Navy Compass.

"As is promoted by the Secretary of the Navy, I'm proud that NBSD is an active participant in 'mission first, safety always' both at work and at home," added Williamson. "The credit for this latest achievement is due to our outstanding safety team and the sailors and civilians who ensure safety is addressed in every work situation."

NBSD is scheduled to receive the award during the safety excellence awards presentation ceremony on Oct. 4 at the U.S. Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center in Washington, D.C.
