??The U.S. Navy has recovered the body of a female sailor who had been reported missing from the guided missile destroyer USS Halsey yesterday, according to Navy officials.
The sailor, whose name has not been made public, was spotted by a helicopter involved in the search and rescue operation, and recovered by a rescue swimmer, Lt. Frederick Martin, spokesman for the Navy's 5th Fleet, said in a statement. Stars and Stripes reports that her body was spotted about 75 miles east of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. The Halsey, which is homeported in San Diego, had been operating in the Gulf of Oman at the time of the sailor's disappearance.
Helicopters, fighter jets and other aircraft from four ships were used during the search, according to a Navy news release. Officials began the search when the sailor failed to report for duty Tuesday. The Navy is withholding the sailor's name and all details, such as how long she had been in the Navy and assigned to the Halsey, until her family is notified, said Martin.
