New Report: 76,000 Vets Homeless on Any Given Night

When you walk past a homeless person on the streets of Anytown, USA, there's at least a 1-in-10 chance that human being is a veteran who served our country. A new government report finds roughly 76,000 veterans are sleeping on the streets on any given night.

The study is the result of a first-time collaboration between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Veterans Affairs - according to a news release from the two agencies. The VA and HUD say the report is the "authoritative analysis of the extent and nature of homelessness among veterans." Some of the more startling findings include:

No matter your political leanings, whether you support the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq or are against them - heck, whether you were protesting in the streets during the Vietnam War era - you have to admit, this report is something we should be ashamed of.
