It's PTSD Awareness Day: What are the Symptoms? (Video)

Today is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs wants to get the word out about what PTSD looks like, and how to get help for it.

Just how common is PTSD among veterans? According to the VA website, PTSD is present:

  • In about 11-20% of Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars (Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom), or in 11-20 Veterans out of 100.
  • In as many as 10% of Gulf War (Desert Storm) Veterans, or in 10 Veterans out of 100.
  • In about 30% of Vietnam Veterans, or about 30 out of 100 Vietnam Veterans.

As Home Post has reported before, there are a wide variety of ways to treat PTSD, from traditional methods like talk therapy and medication, to alternative treatments such as meditation and acupuncture.  You can click here to find links to PTSD treatment resources.
