A television station in New York is identifying the Marine killed in yesterday's helicopter crash on Camp Pendleton as Sgt. Trevor Cook of Lyndonville, New York. WIVB-TV reports that Cook was the crew chief of the UH-1Y helicopter that crashed near the northern border of the base. According to WIVB-TV, Cook enlisted in the Marines right out of high school, and served for seven years.
Trevor's father, David Cook, released the following statement to WIVB:
Cook's uncle, Alan Stalker, told the Daily News that his nephew had been deployed once to Afghanistan, and was slated to return.
Trevor Cook was interviewed for a story put together by Miramar in 2009 about the UH-1Y. He described to Cpl. Chris T. Mann what it was like to fly the Yankee during a 7-month deployment:
