The war in Afghanistan started ten years ago today, with the San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson playing a key role. The USS Vinson launched the first Naval air strikes against the Taliban on October 7, 2001. The Vinson's Facebook page posted a video montage of those air strikes, and the events that lead up to them. (Click here to watch.)
Army Lt. Col. Jason Amerine was on The Colbert Report last night to talk about the the war. A Green Beret, Amerine was part of the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, and fought with Hamid Karzai against the Taliban. He spoke with Colbert about what that battle was like, and about the great loss of American life over the past decade because of the war. You can watch that interview here:
