America's top military official said today on national television that while diplomatic options would be ideal in dealing with Syria, military intervention by the United States is not off the table. Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made his comments today on "CBS This Morning."
Dempsey's words come after what's being called the Houla massacre - where the Syrian government killed 108 of its own people this past weekend. Roughly one-third of those killed were children.
According to the Christian Science Monitor:
The spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville, said today that most of the victims had been "executed" with knives and gunfire.
Reuters reports that Syrian President Bashar al Assad's government has been attacking Syrian citizens for more than a year.
