Miramar Air Show Will Go On

The Miramar Air Show will happen the first weekend in October, but without the Blue Angels or flights by any active-duty military aircraft.

Miramar Air Show Will Go On
Miramar officials say they will hold their air show, even without active-duty military planes in the air.

The air show will happen over two days, one day fewer than the show normally runs. The Department of Defense squashed flight activity at air shows like the one at MCAS Miramar because of federal budget cuts. The commander of the base, Col. John Farnam released a video statement announcing the show will go forward and he is encouraging people to visit.

"You'll see a number of static displays that really give you an opportunity to understand your Marine Corps," said Farnam. "And what it is that we do for the nation. To see that your trust in us, to protect our way of life, to protect our nation is not misplaced. So while the show's going to be a little bit different this year, I tell you, it's going to be a time to remember for you and for your family."

Farnam said people will be able to see military aircraft on the ground and they will be able to interact with the crews that fly the aircraft.
