Taylor Hargis is the pregnant wife of Army Ranger Cpl. Josh Hargis, who gave his commander the "salute seen around the world" from his hospital bed. Taylor is speaking out about the unbelievable response the photo of the salute is generating.
Hargis survived a suicide bombing in Afghanistan that killed San Diego native 1st Lt. Jennifer M. Moreno and three other soldiers on Oct. 6.
Hargis's commander presented him with a Purple Heart on as he lay unconscious in a hospital bed in Afghanistan. Taylor posted the commander's letter to her along with the photo on her Facebook page:
"Despite his wounds, wrappings, tubes, and pain, Josh fought the doctor who was trying to restrain his right arm and rendered the most beautiful salute any person in that room had ever seen.
I cannot impart on you the level of emotion that poured through the intensive care unit that day. Grown men began to weep and we were speechless at a gesture that speak volumes about Josh's courage and character.
The picture, which we believe belongs on every news channel and every news paper is attached. I have it hanging above my desk now and will remember it as the single greatest event I have witnessed in my 10 years in the Army."
