Retired Army Sgt. Brendan Marrocco lost all four limbs in a 2009 roadside bomb attack in Iraq. He underwent a double arm transplant, with limbs from a deceased donor, back in January. One thing Brendan didn't lose in war was his wicked sense of humor.

The mother of fallen Twentynine Palms Marine Lance Cpl. Jason Barfield got in touch with me a few months ago to let me know her son was to be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with Combat Valor on March 7, 2013 - what would've been Jason's 24th birthday.
