Negroponte Hopes to Prevent Intel 'Fiasco'

Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte says he hopes that U.S. attempts to gather intelligence on Iran's nuclear weapons program are productive -- and accurate.

In a post created after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Negroponte's job is to give U.S. policymakers information about al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations, and to coordinate U.S. intelligence efforts.

Negroponte, a veteran diplomat, has referred to pre-war intelligence about Iraq "the WMD fiasco."
