Students at Virginia Tech quickly began turning to the Internet as a way of learning about, and trying to understand, Monday's killings at the school.
Christopher Bowns, a junior said, "I'm an information junkie, so knowing as much as I can about this is really the best way for me to make sense of all of it, you know make sense of what happened."
Bowns said he and his friends are searching for information online at Wikipedia, through blogs and with e-mail.
"I've had 145 e-mails between Facebook and listserves and friends," Bowns said. "I've been trying to keep up. But its been difficult at times."
Web sites normally used for socializing and classifieds — like MySpace and Facebook, even Craigslist — are filled with condolence messages sent from across the country for students at Virginia Tech.
The online encyclopedia Wikipedia's entry for Monday's shootings is called "Virginia Tech Massacre." It contains a picture of Norris Hall, where the second round of shootings took place.
Bowns said he was a little taken aback when he saw the photo on Wikipedia. It was a picture he had taken on a beautiful, cloudless day the year before.
