For 10 weeks we followed these eight runners as they trained for the 118th Boston Marathon. On the day of the race we asked each of them to send us a picture of themselves before they hit the course and after they finished. Capturing the ups and downs of the day, this is what it looks like to stare 26.2 miles in the face.

Going into the race, Ashe was feeling nervous. He ended the marathon feeling disappointed that he missed his goal time.

Before the race, Burgess was feeling excited and relaxed. Despite the physical pain, she was feeling relief and closure after the marathon.

Before, Clark was feeling wistful and anxious but after the marathon she felt victorious. "Boston got their day back!"

Conlon suffered from terrible sunburn but his favorite part of the race was the crowd. "They were so supportive and loud. It was just incredible how much love they were pouring out to the runners," he said.

Going into the race, Harper was excited to make new memories at the Boston Marathon after reliving the events and emotions from the 2013 marathon.

Myers was feeling overwhelmed and emotional with all of the messages of support before the race. After the race she was thankful that so many people believed in her and her cause, which was to raise money for a friend's
8-year-old son who has leukemia.

Before the race, Nelson was feeling a mix of anxiety, fear and excitement. "I am very excited to have a beautiful, joyful day and get to that finish line come hell or high water!"

Leading up to the marathon Rausin felt that all she could do was trust. "Trust that I've put enough miles in, trust that I've prepped my equipment to be the best it can be and trust myself to know I can do this."
