The eyes of California’s political community were on San Diego this weekend. They were watching the state’s Republican Party convention. San Diego delegates said they left the convention focused on expanding their local base.
Republican delegates from across California came to San Diego this weekend to rally support for their party’s statewide candidates.
In the last nine months the party has signed up more than 200,000 new members statewide.
Local party Chairman Tony Krvaric hopes that momentum will return the party to the majority in San Diego County.
“We hope to flip the county back into the GOP column by November. There are currently – there are 5,000 more democrats than republicans in this county. We’ll not, of course, let that stand. San Diego is a center-right county and it should be a Republican county,” Krvaric said.
Registered democrats inched ahead of republicans in San Diego County for the first time in more than 60 years in 2008. They’ve held onto that lead ever since.
