To date, there have been 1,005 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza in San Diego County, including 16 deaths, according to the HHSA.

County health officials again encouraged people to stay home from work or school if they have influenza-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Those with underlying medical conditions experiencing influenza-like symptoms should contact their doctor, according to the HHSA.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
