A new poll shows San Diegans support medical marijuana but they don't want more dispensaries than the city can regulate.
Competitive Edge Research and Communication conducted the survey of more than 500 adults in the City of San Diego. It showed that 77 percent agreed that the city should ensure convenient access to medical marijuana.
Still, two-thirds of respondents said they didn't want San Diego to have more marijuana dispensaries than the city can regulate and police. San Diegans were highly supportive of regulations that would require background checks of dispensary managers and require dispensaries to be at least a thousand feet from a school.
Respondents took a fairly negative view of full legalization. 47 percent said they'd vote against a measure to legalize all uses of marijuana, while only 40 percent would support it. The poll was paid for by a group co-founded by former mayoral candidate Steve Francis.
