San Diego's task force on medical marijuana presents its land-use recommendations to the city council today.
The task force said any businesses in San Diego that dispense medical marijuana should be required to apply for a land use permit and that they should be located only in industrial or commercial zones. They should not be located within 1,000 feet of a school or be within 500 feet of another marijuana dispensary.
These recommendations are are based on existing ordinances in other California cities. Alex Kreit, the chair of the task force, said restricting land-use of dispensaries is a key step.
"When you do that you inherently limit the number that can operate and you insure that they're located in places that are not disruptive to the community," he said.
The city council is not expected to take action on the recommendations today. They will likely refer them to the council's land use and planning committee for further review.
