HOV lanes on the I-15 will be closed for nine days beginning on Saturday, June 18 while construction is completed on two new carpool lanes. HOV lanes from SR-163 to SR-56 will be closed through June 26.
Caltrans expects the closures will cause heavy traffic during peak commuting hours. They estimate that 2,000 vehicles per hour, or 20 percent of commuters, use the HOV lanes during the morning and afternoon rush.
Since there are no recommended detour routes, I-15 Corridor Director Gustavo Dallardo said, "We're asking for everyone's patience. Try to allocate a little extra time during that week, or try to change your commute, if that's possible, through your employer."
The new lanes will be open on June 27, and will be available 24 hours a day, in both directions.
