San Diego Wave FC and the National Women’s Soccer League will take part in the first-ever NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup. The tournament will feature all 14 NWSL clubs and the top six teams in LIGA MX Femenil Clausura and Apertura during 2023, including Tigres UANL, Club América, Chivas de Guadalajara, Rayadas de Monterrey, Pachuca and Tijuana. The Wave will kick off the tournament on Saturday, July 20 against Bay FC at 7 p.m. PT at Torero Stadium. San Diego will continue the group stage on Friday, July 26, hosting Club América at Snapdragon stadium at 7 p.m. PT. The Wave’s group stage will round out on Thursday, August 1 with a match against Angel City FC at Titan Stadium at 7:00 p.m. PT. The full tournament will consist of 30 group stage contests, followed by a four-team semifinal round slated for the week of August 4. The championship match will take place the weekend of October 25-27. Broadcast details, playoff schedule details and competition rules will be announced in the coming weeks. The adorable event, which pays homage to Comic-Con International is gearing up to return in full tail-wagging force at a brand-new location (AleSmith Brewery) with plenty of space and activities for Superfuzzies big and small. This family-friendly event encourages attendees to grab their canine sidekick and celebrate with themed photo experiences, music, activities, Comic and Pop Culture Trivia, opportunity drawings, a BARKetplace & Artist Showcase, and more. The highlight of the event is the all-important PAWSplay Contest for superheroes and their heroic dogs, sponsored by Trusted Housesitters. The PAWSplay Contest is separated into three fun categories including Superheroes & Super Villains, Pop Culture Pups and Dynamic Duos – for those who want to dress up alongside their fuzzy family member or have multiple dogs in costume. While comic book enthusiasts wait all year for Comic-Con International, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite action-adventure stars, orphan dogs and cats at Helen Woodward Animal Center will wait a lifetime to meet their superheroes – individuals with one sole mission…to rescue an orphan pet. David Lewis retired from MiraCosta College after 29 years of teaching adult music appreciation. He also teaches for the OSHER program at Cal State San Marcos and is the founder and director of the San Luis Rey Chorale and is director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido. He has entertained our life audience over the years 32 times! This is a unique class on skills and safety for the home shop. No specific project will be built, but students will learn safe practices on tools that you’d normally find in a home woodshop. Specific tools covered will be jigsaw, router and circular saw. Bring your questions to class. We’re happy to answer questions as we work.
