  • The exhibition "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" shares stories of how the construction of race has shaped laws, institutions, and daily life in San Diego and the broader multinational region. Presented in English and Spanish, the exhibition highlights key moments in this region’s complex history of race. Experienced through mixed media, artworks, and accounts from regional archives, the exhibition brings forward important stories and voices often left out of mainstream narratives. Created in collaboration with local artists, researchers, and community leaders, this experience highlights stories, past and present, of how communities have resisted oppression and worked for change. "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" is an invitation and a call to action. It is a space to reflect, connect personal experiences, and take part in ongoing conversations about racial justice and building a more equitable future together. • Please note there is no class on April 25, 2026. Characters and characterization make or break a novel, and as a writer, you must know not only how to construct a person from the ground up, but also how to skillfully relate that character to your readers through action and thought. This means that complicated backstories are not the be-all-end-all to characters. We need to understand the personalities within our writing. This process can be tricky, but it is a lot of fun. Once you have it down, you’ll never forget it. This course will focus on three main areas of study: - Character Theory - Psychology - Subtext By the time you finish this course, you will not only have fully formed characters that fit your story and style, you’ll know how to use them, too. NOTE: Though this class is offered as part of the Novel Writing Certificate Program, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. Please also note that you will receive your Zoom link via email 24 hours before the start of this class. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram
