  • Many Black San Diegans left or were forced out of their neighborhoods due to redlining, freeway construction, other policy decisions and the high cost of living. We dive into some of that history and ongoing efforts to revitalize that sense of community and cultural identity. But first, a breakdown of Proposition 50.
  • First, immigrant rights groups say the man’s death fits into a pattern of dwindling oversight and increasingly harsh conditions – at the Imperial County detention center and others across the country. Then, a San Diego City Council member is proposing a tax on those with second homes and vacation rentals. Next, ballots have gone out to vote on Proposition 50 – we tell you how it could impact San Diego County. Plus, the operators of the Del Mar Fairgrounds are looking for the public’s input on what’s next for the site. Finally, we take a look into a natural wonder in the Loma Portal neighborhood.
  • St. Paul’s will host a drop-off donation drive to support S.P.E.N.D. (St. Paul’s Essential Needs Drive) on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Conference Center, 2557 Third Ave, San Diego, CA 92103. The community is asked to bring new, unopened essential items, including toothbrushes/toothpaste, blankets, and socks, to directly support vulnerable older adults served by St. Paul’s PACE across San Diego County. St. Paul’s S.P.E.N.D. shines a light on the growing gap between a seniors’ fixed income and the rising cost of living, and channels community support into the most-needed everyday items. Thousands of older adults in San Diego County live below the actual cost of living and struggle to cover basics like housing, food, and medications. Many do not meet federal poverty thresholds and go without essential living items. Donations through S.P.E.N.D. help close that gap for the seniors in St. Paul’s care this winter. Those interested in supporting this year’s event can donate at www.stpaulseniors.org/donate and select “S.P.E.N.D.” from the dropdown menu, or use donorbox.org/spend-2025 to contribute directly to this year’s drive. • Step into the spirit of the holidays as the TERI Players bring Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol" to life in a moving, joy-filled production for all ages. Ebenezer Scrooge (Aiden Bolt) is a wealthy but bitter man who despises Christmas and cares only for money. He mistreats his kind-hearted clerk, Bob Cratchit (Cameron Morning), ignores his cheerful nephew (Jesse Rivas), and turns away charity solicitors (Tim Sangster and Kristiana Scarpace). But on Christmas Eve, a chilling visit from his late business partner, Jacob Marley (Nolan Levinson), sets Scrooge on a journey through time with three mysterious spirits—the Ghost of Christmas Past (Moorea Howson), the Ghost of Christmas Present (Stevie Evoy), and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (CJ Rodriguez). Through their lessons, Scrooge witnesses the cost of his cold heart and the hope of redemption before it’s too late. Experience this classic tale of generosity, family, and holiday spirit—beautifully performed by the TERI Players! The TERI Players are a dynamic ensemble of individuals from our Center for the Arts Day Program for adults on the TERI Campus of Life who shine on stage with the support of our TERI Theatre & Performing Arts Pro Team. • Every Halloween, the shows that we fear the most suddenly return. The infamous NCT Halloween SPOOKTACULAR raises its ugly head again on Friday and Saturday, October 31 and November 1 at 7:30 p.m. The performance features macabre send ups of our regular sketches, and features scenes and games that we haven’t practiced, and yet still charge full price. That’s how scary the show is… In addition, we have a new show debuting this year, just in time for Halloween. Thursday, October 30 will feature an improvised horror anthology. It’s an improvised series of scenes, all within a different horror genre. It’s a hilariously spooky way to spend an evening. Come join our cast as we delve into absurdity and horror. • Jax Atelier Celebrates Grand Opening of First Brick-and-Mortar Shop in Normal Heights San Diego, CA — October 26, 2025 — After years of dreaming, planning, and creating, local artist Jacki Geary is thrilled to announce the grand opening of Jax Atelier, her first-ever brick-and-mortar retail space. The grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 3180 Adams Avenue, San Diego, CA 92116, in the heart of the Normal Heights neighborhood. Founded in 2018, Jax Atelier began as a creative brand centered on handcrafted art and design. With over 25 years of experience as a professional artist, Jacki has brought her distinctive vision to life through unique collections of one-of-a-kind earrings, block-printed textiles, journals, greeting cards, prints, original paintings, and photography. In addition to her own creations, the new shop will also feature a thoughtfully curated selection of handmade goods from other talented makers — including artisan soaps, candles, and cards — along with treasures from Jax’s beloved vintage collection of pottery, glassware, artwork, and home décor. “This announcement is something I’ve been dreaming about for so many years — and it’s finally here,” says Jacki Geary. “I hope that the shop brings a little joy to people’s day — that it feels like a warm hug, filled with creativity and inspiration. It may be a small space, but the intention is big.” The grand opening event on November 15 will welcome the community to explore the space, meet the artist, and shop an inspiring selection of locally made and vintage goods. “I truly couldn’t have made it here without the love and encouragement of my amazing family, friends, and customers,” Jacki adds. “You are the reason I get to do what I love.” Jax Atelier on Facebook / Instagram
