  • This event includes a screening of the 2024 movie "Twisters" and a panel discussion. Think chasing tornadoes is just for the movies? (Twisters, anyone?) Extreme weather events happen worldwide—and while tornadoes aren’t common in Southern California, they’re not impossible. Add in earthquakes, flooding, intense rain, heat waves, and wildfires, and the need for accurate forecasting becomes clear. What roles do cutting-edge technology, gut instincts, and citizen science play in predicting these events? And how does real science compare to what we see on the big screen? Researchers from the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes will share how they monitor, model, and improve forecasts for extreme weather events. Seating is limited and first come, first served. Comic-Con Museum on Facebook / Instagram

  • This event pairs a screening of the 2025 movie "Fantastic Four: First Steps" and a discussion with the science advisor who worked on the movie. Believe it or not, there’s some real science in superhero movies. When telling a story about super-powered humans on an alternate Earth, the team behind Fantastic Four: First Steps consulted physics professor Clifford Johnson. He’ll share insights about how his expertise helped shape the design and plot of the movie. How might teleportation and faster than light travel work? Can you surf a neutron star? Real-world physics is on-screen in every equation Reed Richards scribbles on a chalkboard and we’ll explore the mix of science and imagination, and discuss why it’s an important balance.
