  • What makes a neighborhood historic—and why does it matter? Join us for an engaging evening exploring the ins and outs of historic districts. From quaint main streets to architecturally significant neighborhoods, historic districts help communities preserve character, foster civic pride, and encourage thoughtful stewardship through tools like the Mills Act and the California Historical Building Code. This lecture will also highlight Coronado’s own historic preservation program, including how to create historic districts, how property owners can benefit from designation, and what recent updates to the municipal code mean for Coronado’s future. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the steps involved in creating a historic district in their own neighborhood. • Renowned artist Julian Prolman, widely known as The Great White Buffalo, is thrilled to announce the launch of his latest art collection in a special partnership with Exclusive Collections Gallery, located in the vibrant Gaslamp District of San Diego. This groundbreaking exhibition transcends traditional art displays, serving as a powerful initiative to support the transformative mission of Art for Education. “The art serves as a vehicle to secure holopods, enabling educators from around the globe to connect with marginalized communities and deliver high-quality education in areas where access is limited,” Prolman emphasizes. A portion of the proceeds from this collection will be dedicated to acquiring the technology necessary for this innovative initiative. The inaugural holopod will be installed at the Chema Vision Children's Center in Kibera, Kenya. The collection features striking punk glam screenprinted paintings that vividly portray the faces of Indigenous leaders, each piece a powerful homage to the guardians of our natural world. These artworks evoke the spirit and resilience of the natural protectors, capturing their strength and wisdom. The punk glam aesthetic infuses a contemporary edge, blending rebellious energy with reverence for tradition, creating a visually arresting narrative that honors the vital role these leaders play in safeguarding our environment. Each painting serves as a celebration of cultural heritage and environmental stewardship, inviting viewers to reflect on the deep connections between identity, nature, and activism. The collection will be on display and available for public purchase on Friday, September 12, and Saturday, September 13. Don’t miss this opportunity to support an impactful cause through the power of art.

  • Montana natives turned Angelenos, Joselyn Wilkinson and Don Barrozo’s intoxicating music feels like a walk through mountain wildflowers and Southern California Joshua trees. Their live arrangements feature finger-picked guitar, tenor ukulele, and percussion, allowing Joselyn’s voice to shine through with strength and vulnerability, joined by Don’s powerful harmonies. Joselyn is the founder of legendary women’s global fusion band, ADAAWE, while Don is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and editor for television’s long-running animated series “The Simpsons.” The duo sees their music as a powerful way to share truth and build community. Thirds Apart is a duo comprised of Doug Presnell and Rich Chagnon, and they are relatively new to the San Diego folk music scene. Their original songs range from humorous to nostalgic to thought-provoking, with a few infrequently-heard covers. Their extensive choral experience is evident when they sing; while harmony is nice, blend is what makes for excellent wine, a great cup of coffee, and the engaging sound of these two musicians.
