  • Way Outside the Lines presents Destination Joy! An immersive art collaboration between San Diego neighborhoods utilizing art and the MTS Trolley System to foster solidarity and raise awareness. The Urban Collaborative Project and lead artist, Khalil Bleux, are partnering with some exceptional artists and cultural practitioners from San Ysidro, Chula Vista, National City, and Southeast San Diego for a 2-day event on August 3rd and 4th from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the MTS Trolley cars and select Trolley stations: San Ysidro- Iris Avenue Transit Station, Chula Vista- E Street Transit Center, National City- 24th Street Transit Center, Downtown- Park and Market, Southeast San Diego- Euclid Avenue Transit Station and Jacobs Center. The organizers of this immersive event recognize the transformative power of art, cultural practice, and solidarity in working toward equity and justice. The 2-day art program aims to inspire community engagement and raise awareness regarding the impact of systemic racism and oppressive practices such as redlining. There are two ways to enjoy this special event. Reserve a ticket for the FREE full-ride, guided immersive experience or go to any of the four FREE Trolley Station Activation sites. Community members can stop at each Trolley Station Activation to explore thought-provoking art and cultural performances. The tour will end at Destination JOY! an amazing day-long event at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in Southeast San Diego. This campaign is supported through Far South/Border North, a California Creative Corps program implemented by the City of San Diego in partnership with Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, the San Diego Regional Arts and Culture Coalition, and the San Diego Foundation. It is funded, in part, by the California Arts Council, a state agency. Community partners include Agency 515, Southeast Art Team, Grioneers Inc., Ajency Arts, Mundo Gardens, Vision Culture Foundation, The Homegrown Project, Chula Vista Yoga Center, SBCS (formerly known as South Bay Community Services), Blk Box Gallery, MTS, UC San Diego Park & Market, Joe & Vi Jacobs Center, and RISE San Diego.
