  • Tuesday, 5 May, 8 p.m. Doors open 7 p.m. Jensen McRae could've been down for the count. "The most profound choices of my life,” she says, “have often felt like things I did before I was ready to do, and I had to grow into them.” McRae’s songs have a way of giving shape to these leaps, cliff jumps and trust falls, and on her new album, "I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!," Jensen McRae goes further than ever, evolving from a promising young artist to a fully grown songwriter and star. “It’s about realizing what you can’t outrun, and what follows when you have withstood what you thought might crush you,” she explains. “There are things that can happen to us—unthinkable, untenable things—that threaten our safety in our own bodies. They happen, and you feel like the only option is escape. In truth, the only way out is in—back into the place you have always lived.” The home – with Jensen front-and-center, possibly leaving, possibly arriving – adorns the artwork for I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!”. “You can leave the city, you can leave the lover,” McRae continues, “but you can never leave yourself.” Read more here Jensen McRae on YouTube / Instagram

  • The guitar has a way of moving us like few other instruments can. On April 18, the Leyenda Foundation presents an evening of classical guitar featuring four exceptional performers — each with their own voice, each shaped by the enduring legacy of the Romero family. The program draws from a wide and varied repertoire, reflecting the remarkable range of the classical guitar — from intimate solo works to the full texture of quartet playing. "To see these four unique personalities of guitar — hailing from different corners of the country but unified by the Romero Family tradition — is to see the future of classical guitar in its most vibrant and breathing form." — Matthew Denman, Founder & Executive Director, The Leyenda Foundation The Artists Damian Goggans (Cleveland, OH) A performer and scholar committed to broadening the classical guitar repertoire, Damian has premiered original works at Severance Hall and toured with the U.S. Guitar Orchestra. His playing is thoughtful, precise, and deeply intentional. Kenneth Bender (Encinitas, CA) A San Diego native with nearly two decades of dedicated practice, Kenneth brings warmth and technical depth to everything he plays — from solo works to chamber settings. Austin Keller (Pocatello, ID) An award-winning guitarist and pianist who experiences music as color, Austin's playing has an expressive originality that has earned him top prizes in competitions across the country. Benji Scheckner (Encinitas, CA) A current student of Maestro Pepe Romero, Benji has performed as a concerto soloist, as a soloist, and in numerous ensemble settings, including at the Granada Guitar Festival. At 15, he plays with a depth and sensitivity that goes well beyond his years. About the Foundation The Leyenda Foundation supports emerging guitarists through education, performance, and mentorship rooted in the Romero family tradition — a legacy that has called San Diego home for over half a century. All proceeds from this concert go directly toward music education. Leyenda Foundation on Facebook
