This session will cover how to identify these animals in the wild, along with key insights into their biology, behaviors, and capabilities. Participants will hear both humorous and poignant stories of human–mountain lion encounters, while also exploring common myths and misconceptions to better understand the facts. The presentation will include important safety guidelines for navigating mountain lion territory, effective deterrent strategies for keeping lions away from populated areas, and up-to-date information on California laws and California Department of Fish and Wildlife policies related to mountain lions.   • Bilal Bikile is an Ethiopian-American writer, curator, and multidisciplinary artist based in San Diego. He's the founder and curator of Deixis Gallery, a contemporary art gallery and community hub, and the founding editor of Deixis Journal, a multidisciplinary literary magazine. He also runs Salon de Deixis, a weekly gathering featuring guest speakers and open discussions on art, culture, and ideas. His work spans fiction, mixed media, photography, film, and electronic literature. He created the digital piece "Lost Inside: A Digital Inquiry," which has been exhibited internationally in Norway, Denmark, and Poland. He authored the photobook "Al-Ghayb (The Unseen)" and wrote the short film "Bekele," which continues to screen at festivals nationally. Bikile holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from San Diego State University and will begin his MFA in Creative Writing at UCSD in Fall 2026. This free, self-guided event features 13 local artists showcasing their work in various locations throughout the neighborhood. From fine painting and intricate glasswork to handmade pottery and jewelry, there is an incredible range of art to discover. This year also features a special guest from the Spanish Village Art Center, known for unique functional art. Come meet the makers, talk shop, and support the local arts scene.
