  • Saturday, August 30, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. No experience necessary. Age 15+ welcome! An ancient and eco-centered craft, Natural Dyes are a place to connect with the beauty and bounty of our planet’s rich offerings while creating with color and using our hands and minds to refresh our homes, wardrobes and to create one-of-a-kind palettes. In this hands-on workshop students will learn the entire process of natural dyeing while incorporating creative design elements through resist dye methods of Shibori. Each student will Shibori and hand-dye three natural fiber silk &/or bamboo scarves or squares to take home or gift to loved ones. If you’ve ever looked into using Natural Dyes, you may have been intimidated by the many facets of the process. We’ll cover them all–scour, mordant, preparation of natural dye, basic Shibori dye resist methods, natural dyeing & finishing–in great detail so you can get to creating with natural color today. Students will receive an "Intro to Natural Dyes" booklet that covers the entire process in detail, 3 natural fiber scarves to dye and Shibori, and samples from the dye pots. Students are also invited to bring one or two small glass jars (may be used/cleaned jars or new ones–no plastic containers as dye will be hot!) to take home dye at the end of class to continue to explore and experiment at home. • Military, first responders & sibling discount. • Scholarships available. • Homeschool funds accepted. • If this class is full, join the Interest List. • Saturday, August 16, from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Ages 13+ years welcome! In this 2.5-hour, beginner-friendly ceramics workshop, you’ll explore the fundamentals of slab building while creating a one-of-a-kind altar infused with memory, meaning, and intention. Your finished piece can serve as a centerpiece for meditation, a space for prayer, or simply a beautiful expression of your personal story. Using slab-building techniques, you’ll design an altar that stands on a tabletop or hangs on the wall—perfect for holding your most cherished items, whether it’s crystals, candles, or that strangely comforting beach rock you’ve carried for years. This project is about shaping a space for reflection, connection, and quiet power. Feel free to bring any personal objects you’d like to incorporate or size your altar around. Projects will be handcrafted with speckled B-mix clay rather than the dark clay body in the photograph. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class. No experience necessary.
