  • On Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, One Warm Coat will lead the nation in observing National Share the Warmth Day, a dedicated national day of awareness and action to ensure everyone has access to the warmth, comfort, and protection they need to thrive. Since 1992, One Warm Coat has helped distribute nearly 9 million coats and kept 22 million pounds of textiles out of landfills. Every coat collected stays within the local community where it was given, ensuring immediate impact. Observed annually on the third Tuesday of October, National Share the Warmth Day inspires thousands of individuals, schools, community groups, and companies to donate coats, host coat drives, and make financial contributions to provide warmth to children and adults in need. The need is more urgent than ever: More than 37 million Americans currently live in poverty. Homelessness rates jumped by 18% in 2024, with more than 771,000 people in the U.S. without housing. Last year, One Warm Coat supported 4,600 coat drives, facilitating the distribution of nearly 500,000 coats nationwide, yet 60% of local nonprofit partners reported not having enough coats to meet the need. 84% of One Warm Coat’s nonprofit partners expect an increased demand for services this year. Ways to get involved include: Give money: Every $1 donated warms one person in need. Give coats: Find a local drop-off site at onewarmcoat.org/donatecoats Give time: Organize a coat drive in your community with help from One Warm Coat. Lands’ End - $10 off in-store purchase with coat donation from 09/27/25 - 12/07/25 J.Crew - $25 off next purchase of $125 or more with coat donation 10/14/25 - 12/31/25 One Warm Coat thanks their 2025 sponsors: J.Crew, MOD Pizza, Lands’ End, Max Mara, The Samueli Foundation, Todd Synder, Vodafone Foundation, and Garnett Hill. • During these divided times, many people believe that open dialogue and discourse are the only tools to mend a wounded nation. Comedians Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng believe the opposite. The format? A DEBATE TO THE DEATH. Imagine CNN’s Presidential Townhall that’s somehow more demented and with less decorum. This will be a race to the bottom. Minhaj and Chieng will face off about America’s most urgent issues: Presidents, War, the Economy, Immigration, Infrastructure, Food, Dating, Family Values, and of course, the impending Race War. This is not a call for peace. It’s a call for pettiness. Are you in?  Please note: This is a rental event of Jacobs Music Center, presented by Nederlander Concerts. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. • Whether writing about our companion animals or about wild places, portraying nature and non-human animals requires honing our senses and deepening our empathy. In this three-hour workshop, we’ll look at the role of nature and non-human animals in stories and learn how to render both with compassion and authenticity. Through examples and writing prompts, we’ll examine ways you can reveal the natural world in your writing, including establishing setting, doing research, and capturing sensory detail. We’ll also look at how to authentically portray non-human animals in ways that honor their individuality and true selves. This workshop is for all writers who love the natural world and would like to incorporate its wonders into their work. Register for the event on our website page.
