  • Need ideas for your holiday baking this year? Get inspired at this fun baking demo with Chef Tommy of Big City Chefs! Space is limited, registration is recommended. Walk-ins will be accommodated as space permits. About Chef Tommy: Food has been my passion for as long as I can remember! I spent a lot of my childhood helping my mom in the kitchen experimenting with flavors and learning the magic of cooking. By age sixteen, I was working as a busser soaking in the energy of a busy restaurant. Instead of following my culinary dreams, I took a detour and instead went to college to study accounting. I received a Bachelor of Science and cruised through a successful five-year sales career. Despite my successes, I always felt I was meant for something more and decided to pursue my true calling in the restaurant world. I kicked things off as a server in Charleston, SC before moving to San Diego, where I worked my way up to General Manager at Knotty Barrel. Along the way, I enrolled at the Institute of Culinary Education and gained experience working at Michelin-starred Gramercy Tavern in NYC, Trust and as Sous Chef at Sandpiper Wood Fired Grill & Oysters. By December 2024, I was ready to break free from the traditional kitchen grind and launched my own personal chef and catering company. Now, I’m thrilled to be working with Big City Chefs offering catering, cooking classes and more! Whether you’re looking for an unforgettable meal or a hands-on cooking experience, I’m here to take you on a culinary adventure! Coronado Public Library on Facebook / Instagram
  • During these divided times, many people believe that open dialogue and discourse are the only tools to mend a wounded nation. Comedians Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng believe the opposite. The format? A DEBATE TO THE DEATH. Imagine CNN’s Presidential Townhall that’s somehow more demented and with less decorum. This will be a race to the bottom. Minhaj and Chieng will face off about America’s most urgent issues: Presidents, War, the Economy, Immigration, Infrastructure, Food, Dating, Family Values, and of course, the impending Race War. This is not a call for peace. It’s a call for pettiness. Are you in?  Please note: This is a rental event of Jacobs Music Center, presented by Nederlander Concerts. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. • Whether writing about our companion animals or about wild places, portraying nature and non-human animals requires honing our senses and deepening our empathy. In this three-hour workshop, we’ll look at the role of nature and non-human animals in stories and learn how to render both with compassion and authenticity. Through examples and writing prompts, we’ll examine ways you can reveal the natural world in your writing, including establishing setting, doing research, and capturing sensory detail. We’ll also look at how to authentically portray non-human animals in ways that honor their individuality and true selves. This workshop is for all writers who love the natural world and would like to incorporate its wonders into their work. Register for the event on our website page. • Each December, the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights fills the harbor with a brilliant procession of festively decorated boats. This year’s parade, celebrating the theme “An Out of This World Christmas,” continues a cherished San Diego tradition that delights families, visitors, and boating enthusiasts alike. For the ultimate Parade of Lights experience, guests can enjoy a holiday buffet dinner aboard the 1898 steam ferry Berkeley — home to the parade’s official judging platform. From this historic setting along the Star of India Wharf, diners are treated to front-row views of the illuminated flotilla as it glides past the museum’s waterfront. The festive atmosphere, delicious fare, and unbeatable vantage point make this one of San Diego’s most memorable holiday evenings. In addition to the dinner package, the Maritime Museum also offers viewing-only tickets aboard the world-famous tall ship Star of India, opening at 5:30 p.m. Guests can watch the parade from her historic decks while enjoying drinks from a cash bar.
