  • August 5 – 9 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. This week of Summer Camp is all about woodworking! Children will learn about the safe use of hand tools as well as the properties of wood. Along the way, we’ll make fun and functional projects the children can later take home, including a group project that fosters teamwork, collaboration, and creative problem solving. Projects and depth of skill exploration are matched up to the children’s age/ability. This camp is recommended for children 8-12 years. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child transferred, let us know! And, if you’d like your camper to stay during the lunch hour, there’s a $25 fee for the week to cover the lunchtime gap.   • This week of Summer Camp is all about Improv & Craft! In collaboration with our upstairs neighbor, Mockingbird Improv, San Diego Craft Collective invites kids ages 8-12 years to a week of “Jungle Party” fun! Kids will build confidence and characters while building friendships, props and set designs. In a positive and expressive environment, we’ll play fun games, craft together, encourage one another, and embrace performance as a fun experience together. At the end of the week, our budding improv’ers and performers will showcase their skills with an improv performance of “Jungle Party”! This camp is recommended for children ages 8-12 years.   • This week of Summer Camp is all about crafts, crafts & more crafts! If you know a teen who loves making & learning new crafts, this camp is for them! We’ll cover a variety of traditional and modern craft mediums, incorporating creative exploration, fine motor skill practice, skill-building, and of course, FUN! We’ll keep things interesting, enjoyable and engaging by meeting each crafter where they’re at. Students will make a variety of fun projects to take home. Teens will explore fiber arts, ceramics, fused glass, woodworking, and more from professional craft artists.   • This week of Summer Camp is all about Game Making & Pinball Machine Building! Calling all makers, designers & traditional “gamers”! In this 1-week camp kids will use multiple mediums and different materials to create a variety of fun, hands-on games, including a handmade Pinball Machine! STEAM principles apply at every turn as kids learn to navigate materials to design and construct their own unique interactive games. We’ll be the guides as the campers design their hearts out. Then we’ll work together to help make their designs come to life! This camp is recommended for ages 8-14 years. "The Cancer Detectives" tells the untold story of the first-ever war on cancer and the coalition of people who fought tirelessly to save women from cervical cancer: a Greek immigrant, Dr. George Papanicolau; his intrepid wife, Mary; Japanese-born artist Hashime Murayama; Dr. Helen Dickens, an African American OBGYN in Philadelphia; and an entirely new class of female scientists. The film premieres on Tuesday, March 26 at 9 p.m. on KPBS TV / PBS App
