  • 'Low and Slow: A Celebration of Lowrider Culture'
    From the KPBS weekend arts preview: VIsual art, Music, Food | Mixed Grounds Coffee is host to a new group art show, featuring art and photography that celebrates lowriders and lowrider culture. The exhibit is curated by Arianna Ytselle, featuring dozens of artists selected from an open call.     A contemporary fine arts exhibition of innovative and traditional fiber art by regional artists. A juried show with juror Kate Stern.     Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Balboa Park location presents its fall exhibitions. For her first exhibition in San Diego, Nathalie Miebach’s "Restless Waters" show will include a new sculpture based on California’s extreme weather. Miebach foregrounds the human relationship to data in her meticulously researched practice, and uses basket-weaving techniques to transform materials into sculpture, wall installations, and more to describe our reciprocal relationship with data. This exhibition runs Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 - Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. The ICA Central mezzanine will be the site of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s celebrated "Remote Pulse," in partnership with Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), which invites visitors to participate in a cross-border activation using identical pulse-sensing stations—a powerful reminder of both our shared humanity and the vast inequities of life on the US-Mexico border. "California Work" revisits the Harrisons’ groundbreaking ecological concepts through re-staged performance artworks, drawings, paintings, photography, collages, maps, archival documentation of large-scale installations, and unrealized proposals for real-world ecological solutions, presented across four San Diego venues: La Jolla Historical Society; California Center for the Arts, Escondido; San Diego Public Library Gallery; and Mandeville Art Gallery at UC San Diego.
