  • Join us for Ancient DNA: New Revelations, a free CARTA public symposium! Dramatic advances in ancient DNA technologies have revolutionized our understanding of the human past. Since the publication of the first ancient human genomes in 2010, the field of archaeogenomics has grown at an astonishing pace, and today the genomes of more than 10,000 ancient humans have been sequenced. From discovering surprising new members of the human lineage to revealing the unexpected histories of infectious diseases to tracking the great migrations that laid the foundations of present-day societies, ancient DNA is rewriting the human story. This symposium explores the diverse applications of archaeogenomics in shaping not only a new vision of the human past, but also in creating a greater understanding of the present and our shared human future. This symposium is an update to our April 2016 event, Ancient DNA and Human Evolution. Event Details Date: Friday, November 7, 2025 Time: 1 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Pacific) Location: Salk Institute & Live Webcast More Information & Registration: https://carta.anthropogeny.org/ This is a public symposium presented by the Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny. You will learn how to throw pottery on a mini wheel and no previous pottery experience is necessary! This is a great way to try wheel throwing and learn how to center clay that is less intimidating and less commitment, and if you love it and want to learn more, the Craft Collective has a variety of weekday evening and weekend full-size ceramic wheel classes to choose from! In this 2-hour class, you will watch step-by-step how to use a mini wheel and will learn how to center the clay and open it up to form tiny pots, bowls, or plates. You will create 1-3 tiny pots over the class period. This class is a great way to learn the basics of a wheel on a small scale. It is also a small class setting, so you can get personalized one-on-one support. At the end of the class you can choose glaze colors, and once your pieces have dried a bit, they will be smoothed, trimmed, glazed and fired for you. Grab a friend or family member who’s been curious about ceramics and come join me in creating tiny pottery! Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after class. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome! We recommend that each student bring an apron to wear and an older towel or a cloth rag. • Military, first responders and sibling discounts • Scholarships available • Homeschool funds accepted San Diego Craft Collective on Facebook / Instagram
