  • A Celebration of Egypt on the Shores of San Diego Bay with star Yasmina El-Abd On March 26, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the community is invited to indulge in an elegant evening of culture, cuisine, and connection at the 5th annual Soirée Francophone of the Alliance Française San Diego. This year’s celebration, Soirée en Égypte, will spotlight the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Egypt, set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego Bay. Guests will enjoy a refined evening featuring distinguished guests, live performances, and a traditional Egyptian dinner. The evening will feature a special singing performance by Egyptian and Swiss singer and actress Yasmina El-Abd, whose international acclaim continues to rise. Recognized for her role in the Netflix series "Finding Ola," Yasmina represents a new generation of artists sharing modern Egyptian storytelling with the world. She has performed at the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening in Cairo and was named to the Forbes Middle East 30 Under 30 list. Her presence promises an unforgettable artistic highlight to the evening. Among the evening’s honored guests are Adrien Frier, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, and Samy Shoker, Egyptian Chess Grandmaster who will perform during the event. Adrien Frier, a senior French diplomat with deep expertise in international relations, strategic affairs, and counterterrorism, has served as Consul General of France in Los Angeles since October 2024. His distinguished career includes coordinating an interministerial task force countering informational threats and advising the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs on major strategic and crisis dossiers, including the Russia–Ukraine conflict. He has also held diplomatic postings in Washington, D.C., and completed a Transatlantic Fellowship at the U.S. State Department. Grandmaster Samy Shoker brings intellectual brilliance and international distinction to the celebration. Born in France and representing Egypt since 2009, he earned the prestigious Grandmaster title from FIDE in 2014. Having competed at the Chess World Cup and the Chess Olympiad, with a peak rating above 2500, Shoker stands among the leading figures of his generation—an inspiring ambassador of strategic excellence and global sportsmanship. Throughout the evening, guests will be treated to live music, cultural encounters, and a traditional Egyptian dinner that celebrates the flavors and hospitality of the region. • In a musical landscape with fewer boundaries than ever before, THE MOSS’s exuberant brand of alternative rock spans genres, eras, and even oceans. The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. Naturally, their songs took shape in the spirit of the island, imbued with the joyfulness and breeziness of reggae culture yet cut with the introspection and communal spirit of mainland indie acts like Pinegrove and Cage the Elephant.
