The Alliance Française San Diego invites you to embark on a journey through the delicate drawings of Joseph Le Dieu at the exhibition, "Promenade in Normandy," hosted at the Once Upon A Frame gallery in Solana Beach. Enjoy Le Dieu's creations from April 11th to 25th, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an opening reception on April 11th, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. "Promenade in Normandy" offers a delightful immersion into the quaint landscapes and rich history of Normandy. But who is Joseph Le Dieu? Born in 1815 in Avranches, this lawyer turned painter led a life intertwined with art, yet his fame remained confined to the borders of Normandy until recently. Catherine Marie, the current owner of Le Dieu's collection, stumbled upon his works tucked away in a trunk. Since then, in partnership with the French Embassy in Washington, the drawings have journeyed from Edinburgh to San Francisco, garnering recognition from the prestigious Orsay Museum in Paris. "We are thrilled to share this remarkable collection with the San Diego community," expresses Julie Ripoll, Executive Director of the Alliance Française San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting French language and culture. In addition to French classes, the Alliance Française organizes events such as the SD French Film Festival scheduled for June. The exhibition, which presents a portion of the whole collection, is hosted in the gallery space of Once Upon a Frame, a high end framer, renowned among artists, collectors, and designers in San Diego. This week of Summer Camp is all about cooking with farm-to-table ingredients and a fun mix of garden & kitchen-related crafting! Is your child curious about where their food comes from? This summer, open their world to exploring the bounty of local, colorful ingredients and how those foods got from the ground to our plates with local culinary arts instructors from Sticky Fingers Cooking. Did your child know that carrots can improve your eyesight, and cherries can help improve your memory? Young chefs will also learn what makes certain ingredients super healthy for the body and how delicious they can taste, while practicing basic cooking skills and techniques on their way to becoming super chefs! When kids aren’t in the kitchen, they’ll be learning to craft using fun, traditional materials with San Diego Craft Collective instructors with a variety of projects! Preschool age children, 4-6 years old, are invited to join in the fun in the mornings from 9 a.m. – Noon School-age children, 7-12 years old, will cook and craft in the afternoons, from 1p.m. – 4 p.m. OPTIONAL | Lunch Hour Supervision If there is a camp ending as ours begins and you need your child transferred, let us know! Defense of Democracy Presents a Film Festival to Open Minds & Raise Funds A local showing of the film “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture” is intended to educate the public and raise funds for Defense of Democracy, a national organization that advocates for an inclusive public education system. “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture” is a documentary film that tells the story of researchers who trace the origins of the Christian anti-gay movement to a mistranslation of the Bible in 1946, casting doubt on a biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Defense of Democracy pushes back against all who attempt to whitewash curricula, deny unsavory parts of American history, censor library books and stigmatize students based on race, gender or sexuality. The group defends and advocates for public schools and library systems based on inclusivity and science. It provides training and tools for volunteers nationwide to engage with their communities.
